Past Projects

Experience is key when working in Zambia. This is why the Matushi Village Project has an advantage over other non-profits. Below you will read about the Primary School that we built in Matushi, Zambia. This was our first project and a road map to future development in the area.

Kamisombo Primary School

"Our First Project"

Matushi's Kamisombo Community School was a run-down makeshift school that was struggling to survive and receiving little to no government funding. Kamisombo Community School had no physical structure and would generally hold classes outside or within local churches. In 2008, Ryan Moore (Peace Corps Volunteer), Ever Moore (local area resident), and the entire Matushi community, decided to solve the education crisis once and for all. From 2008-2010, we embarked on a journey to build a primary school for Matushi's children. With the help of the Aid Africa's Children Organization and private donors, we were able to raise enough money to build a 3 classroom block school in Matushi. In 2010, Kamisombo Primary School was officially completed and became fully accredited with the support of the Zambian Government and Chief Chizela.

Kamisombo Community School Becomes an Educational Success Story

In 2008, Kamisombo Community School, which is located in Matushi Zambia, was a run-down makeshift school that was struggling to survive and was receiving little to no government funding. Kamisombo Community School had no physical structure and would generally hold classes outside, or periodically, within the local churches. The rainy season made it virtually impossible for the kids to go to school. In 2008, Peace Corps Volunteer (Ryan Moore), local area resident (Ever Moore), and the entire Matushi community, decided to do something about the lack education for grade school kids. In 2008, we embarked on a journey to build a primary school for Matushi's children. Over the course of the next two years, and with the help of the Aid Africa's Children Organization and private donors, we were able to raise enough money to build a 3 classroom block school in Matushi. Kamisombo Primary School was officially completed in 2010 and became fully functional with the complete support of the Zambian Government and Chief Chizela. Since 2010, the school has expanded dramatically.

Matushi Sports Enrichment

In the village of Matushi, there is no electricity, no running water, no shops, restaurants, or hotels, and very few children even own a toy. Kids in Matushi have become very resourceful and excel in creating their own toys from recycled materials which are discarded as trash. MVP wanted to help foster a sense of identity and belonging for the kids in Matushi. MVP decided to ask local sports clubs in America for donated sports equipment. With the help of private donors and the Wauconda Area Youth Soccer Club (WAYSC), we have collected and redistributed numerous second hand soccer jerseys and soccer balls to children in Matushi. Today Matushi schools have organized school soccer teams due to the help that MVP provided. The need for equipment and jerseys is great and we are always looking for donations. Our goal to is someday built the community an official soccer pitch.
